Mark Sargeant’s main mission at Haynes Acupuncture on the Gold Coast is to restore all patients to full health, whether that is physically, mentally or emotionally.
The clinic offers a treatment of the whole person, taking the time to establish the cause of certain problems or uncertainties, then developing a step by step plan to help you.
This month for a little fun we asked practitioner Mark Sargeant a few questions about his journey and life in general! We hope you have enjoy getting to know Mark a little better!
What’s your claim to fame? I am a published poet! I have also had my work exhibited and also featured on an ABC radio program.
What’s your favorite drink? Depending on the time of day, Earl Grey tea or Guinness.
What would you rate 10 / 10? Fish, chips and mushy peas from Whitby, North Yorkshire! The place where my parents grew up and I had many happy holidays (and chips!)
What job would you be terrible at? I’m not great at DIY at all, so any job involving power tools would not go well.
What are you absolutely determined to do? I’d really like to do some long-distance walks, such as the Coast to Coast walk in England, crossing some stunning national parks, and the Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
What’s the best way to start the day? Spending time in or near the ocean helps me clear my head and set me up for the day.
How different was your life one year ago? My life wasn’t too dissimilar a year ago, but 10 years ago I was living a very different life – living in England and working as a social worker! I am very grateful for the life I have now in Australia.
What’s your favourite genre of book or movie? This is a hard one to choose. I love reading and enjoy literary fiction, historical fiction and graphic novels.
Where is the most interesting place you’ve been? The Azores were certainly a fascinating ace to visit. They are a group of tiny volcanic islands in the mid-Atlantic, with dramatic scenery, interesting culture and some amazing fresh seafood.
What city would you most like to live in? I’ve always wanted to live in Paris or Berlin – grand European capitals with so much history and culture.
What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of? I’m a bit obsessed with a hobby called geocaching. It’s a treasure hunting game using GPS technology – there are millions of geocaches hidden all over the world, and it a great way to find new places and enjoy being outside.
Why did you decide to do the work you are doing now? I’ve always been interested in holistic health and medicine, and had acupuncture many times as a patient when I was younger and got profound improvements in my health. I believe that it is a powerful medicine that can help many conditions and really improve peoples’ quality of life. I couldn’t imagine doing any other job now!
Where do you usually go when you have time off? I really enjoy bushwalking and photography, and enjoy finding new trails and taking pictures of the landscape, birds and wildlife.
What’s something you’ve been meaning to try but just haven’t gotten around to it? I’ve been meaning to take a scuba diving course for a while now. I love snorkelling and want to go deeper!
What irrational fear do you have? I’m not too keen on geckos. I had one living in my letterbox for a while and it always made me jump out of my skin.
What is something you will NEVER do again? I’m never taking my wife jetboating again, divorce was on the cards that day! She hated it with a vengeance.
What bends your mind every time you think about it? The size of the universe is unfathomable but endlessly fascinating.
