Since the pandemic, we have seen an increase in burnout, fatigue, anxiety and depression in our Gold Coast acupuncture clinic. We are seeing patients that have become worn out from the added pressure and stress in their everyday lives. You may have heard of a new term, ‘quiet quitting,’ which seems to be taking over the internet.
So, what exactly does it mean?
In short, quiet quitting means doing only what your job requires and nothing more and quitting doing anything extra. You still show up for work but stay within the boundaries of your job requirements. You are no more helping out with additional tasks or checking emails outside work hours.
An increasing number of people have grown tired of not getting recognition and compensation for putting in extra hours. They are focusing on work-life balance. The movement is centred around self-preservation and ‘acting your wage’.
In Chinese medicine, we seek to restore balance, which extends to all areas of life. We believe everything in life has a little bit of its opposite, and balance is the key. For example, exercise is beneficial; however, too much can have harmful side effects.
According to Chinese medicine, these ideas also play out in our bodies. When you balance the yin and yang, you feel healthy and well. If they’re out of whack, you feel sick. If we apply this to overworking, there is an imbalance; we may see symptoms such as burnout, fatigue, anxiety and depression. However, the same goes for underworking, where we might see similar signs. It’s all about creating that balance.
At Haynes Acupuncture, our comprehensive consultation determines your individual needs according to you as a whole. Our treatments only involve acupuncture, but we may also offer Chinese herbal medicine, moxibustion, massage, and dietary and exercise therapy, depending on your individual needs.
